I love singing classic country songs. I talk country, sing country, and I’m from country. It’s who I am. But, just the same, I’ve spent a lifetime also loving blues, 70’s rock and folk, soul, and jazz.
I love Ella Fitzgerald and Patsy Cline. Give me a play list with George Strait, Nat King Cole, Merle Haggard, David Crosby, Cole Porter, Hank Williams, Robert Johnson, James Taylor, Louis Armstrong, Eric Clapton, Gladys Knight, B.B. King, Bob Wills, Frank Sinatra, Allman Brothers and Al Green.
So, when I’m writing a new song, it’s going to be country – it’s just a matter of how much of the other musical ingredients are mixed in. “A Lot More Texas” reflects all these musical influences. The lyrics come mostly from the personal experience of an interesting life.
